Meteorite strike in the Channel

Image
Asteroid Sar2667 aka meteorite 2023 CX1 impact was projected to hit 3 km off Cap Fagnet on the Normandy coast where sea bed is 18m deep, actually hit 4 km offshore at 2:59 London time today.  Was only the 7th such object in history to be detected prior to impact. Energy before atmo entry: 100 tons TNT estimated.  Size before entry: About 1 meter diameter. Noise from impact predicted to be 59db on the beach, 9 secs after strike. 'Splash crater' 24m wide.  Average interval between impacts of this size somewhere on Earth is 1/10 year. First projection was for a North American impact later in the day, but more data refined the splashdown point & time.  Ten years and four days ago, the much larger Cheylabinsk meteor was estimated at around 400-500 kilotons, over three orders of magnitude larger. https://twitter.com/tw__astro/status/1624908400902504451 https://www.theguardian.com/science/2023/feb/13/asteroid-lights-up-sky-over-channel-as-scientists-predict-stri

A compilation of nuclear weapon facts

Credible nuclear weapons capabilities and effects for real world peace: peace through tested, proved and practical declassified deterrence and countermeasures against collateral damage. Credible deterrence through simple, effective protection against concentrated and dispersed invasions and aerial attacks. Debunking inaccurate, misleading CND "disarm or be annihilated" left political anti-nuclear deterrence dogma. Hiroshima and Nagasaki anti-nuclear propaganda debunked by solid evidence. (archive.org)
